I didn't do the open post, so I haven't told you how much I love this (and like the edit you made at the end). This is officially going into my pre-S4 fanon, especially Gwen.
They made an awkward team, jarring with their angles of heartache and arrogance and worry and Gwen's own bitterness that stuck at the back of her throat whenever Jack leaned too close to Esther or when he laughed at one of Rex's stupid American jokes.
I think that whatever happens to Jack in the interim is going to be the hardest thing for Gwen to parse. Adaptable as she is, compared to him, she's a novice in accepting loss and keeping going. You bring that out wonderfully.
