See, the fact that they are flashbacks bothers me a little because it feels like a cheat, it's not quite selling the story on the strength of the actual story but using other methods, but oh well, it was the only way I could think of to sell the emotional impact.
The thing is, we have seen CoE, we know what Jack would have done in a situation where, if you accept this as the default, Ianto hadn't been there. He'd have done the exactly same thing. He already had done the exactly same thing with Lisa back in the days and they've made it past it.
For the good of humanity and all, Jack would have no choice but to forgive Ianto.
