Because "we" indicates a shared identity, meaning, yknow, that all of us have our own identities and do our own things and as soon as you have a "we" you have a group identity, a shared identity with shared norms, values, and it changes how you perceive your own little group and how you perceive the others outside your group, generally seeing your own little group as more positive and etc and so on. So yeah, shared identity, makes sense they would have longer relationships, also because the alternative, ie. when you get out, you stand to lose more than you'd do if you'd still primarily define yourself through yourself, you stand to lose intimacy and shared space and a shared world view you've built up.
